Kheerganga or a river of milky water derives its name from the frosty white water that rapidly gushes down the steep slopes of the Kullu. The river is associated with many legends and several stories are ascertained about its origin. The spring of the river lies at 3050 mt above sea level. There, the water is naturally warm and clean. Atop of the hill, where the spring emerges, also stands an old temple and a bathing pool. The heat of the water refreshes the body after the tiresome strenuous trek from Tosh. The river Kheerganga makes its way through the Parvati Valley and is highly revered among the folks. The main villages falling on the way are Tosh, Barshaini, Kalga, Rudranag-- and Nagthan. The houses in these villages are constructed with wood, mud and stones. The lifestyle is simple and relaxed which is the major benefit of travelling to these isolated places.
